Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Premier League Rescheduled Matchweek 26

1st Half

The last game to be played from Premier League 26 was staged at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea hosting London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Chelsea got off to a strong start after Nicholas Jackson was released into the Spurs penalty area by Mykhalio Mudryk inside 5 minutes. Jackson rolled the ball under the legs of keeper Guglielmo Vicario but the quick thinking Micky Van de Ven cleared the ball off the line. It actually fell to the feet of Cole Palmer who had an empty net to aim for but Chelsea’s top scorer was maybe not expecting the ball and it ricocheted off his boot and rocketed over the bar. The hosts eventually took the lead when the inswinging free kick from Conor Gallagher found the head of Trevoh Chalobah. Chalobah brilliantly powered his header into the far corner, beating Vicario and making it 1-0. Despite Chelsea dominating Spurs in the first half, Spurs actually had a huge opportunity just before the interval to level the tie. Pedro Porro played in a free kick from the right wing which found the head of Christian Romero whose glancing header just grazed wide of the far post. The half ended 1-0 with Tottenham needing to rally a huge comeback if they were to keep their Champions League dreams alive.

2nd Half

Both teams had chances early on in the second period with Cole Palmer skying his effort over the Tottenham bar and Emerson Royal unable to get on the end of Brennan Johnson’s pass across the Chelsea 6 yard box in the 68th minute. The hosts eventually sealed the victory against one of their biggest rivals when Chelsea won a free kick in the 70th minute. Up stepped Palmer whose effort rattled the underside of the bar and bounced back into play. Quick to think was Jackson who jumped up to head the ball into an uncontested net. The game finished 2-0 with Chelsea rising over West Ham in the table and into 8th place. Tottenham now sit 8 points behind 4th placed Aston Villa with only 1 game in hand meaning their Champions League dreams are almost done and dusted.
