Shock Exit: Postecoglou’s Forest stunned by Swansea

After a 0-3 loss on the road to Arsenal last weekend, things have only gotten worse for Aussie manager Ange Postecoglou after his new Nottingham Forest team were dumped out of the EFL Cup this morning by Championship outfit Swansea.

Ange was appointed Forest manager last week when owner Evangelos Marinakis decided to sack former head coach Nuno Espirito Santos after their 0-3 defeat at home to West Ham.

‘Big Ange’ comes to Forest with a pretty impressive CV, winning league titles in Australia, Japan, Scotland, and most recently, the Europa League with Tottenham Hotspur in May.

Many fans think Marinakis appointed Postecoglou to help Forest win a trophy, especially with their qualification into the Europa League after last season’s 7th place finish.

Unfortunately for Forest fans, they were knocked out of the EFL Cup this morning, leading at half-time 0-2 thanks to a brace from Igor Jesus, only to loose it 3-2 with the last kick of the game after fellow Australian Cameron Burgess’ stoppage time screamer.

The Forest manager said in a press conference after the game that his side ‘got a bit comfortable in that moment’.

“We had to finish them off and we had plenty of opportunities to do that, and a couple of decisions didn’t go our way,” Postecoglou said.

“Players just thought it would naturally finish that way and we’ve paid a heavy price for that. We need to improve.”
